Yes, you read this right. Parents need raising too. You young people must remember: This is the first shot that your parents have had at raising kids. They will learn to do a good job much faster if you will help them out. Try these:
Keys to Raising Parents:
1. Listen to them. Don't stop listening until they do. Parents have a thing about "talking to you" (sound familiar) about things they think you need to know. Life is easier if you just listen....and you might learn something.
2. Talk to them. Tell them what you think and how you feel. Be brave and be honest. Speak up, but don't start yelling until they do.
3. Try it. Give their way a chance. Remember, they are beginners in the parenting game. Be patient, maybe their way will work out. If it doesn't, ask for a family conference.
4. Expect your parents to show you respect. The only way you get respect is to give it. Respect is not a constitutional right; it is something a person earns.
5. Tell your parents you love them and appreciate what they do for you, even though you don't like some of the rules. Being a parent is a hard job. They need encouragement.
6. If yelling starts, don't waste your time. Just be quiet.
7. Whatever else you do......help your parents have some fun in life. They need it.
